Abstract

This peer-reviewed paper documents the research and design process behind Data Moiré, a large-scale feature wall for the IBM Watson Experience Center in San Francisco. Using IBM analytics data on the growing influence of mobile devices in digital commerce, the project translates 2013–2015 spending patterns into two layered, digitally fabricated metal screens. Their interference produces a dynamic moiré effect that operates simultaneously as data spatialization, architectural identity, and an experiential narrative about cognitive computing.
